I too have seen lots of adders but on the one outing when my brother spotted a black one and filmed it (very blurry!) I had not accompanied him that day. We returned to the place many, many times but never saw it again. Suz

Sudbury in suffolk is a goodplace to see black adders if bitten by severall of these it can almost prove as fatal as Alans tagging as I know by experience same symtoms headache nausea incoherence sometimes death. Tony, I was watching a documentry called Deadly Vipers on discovery yesterday and at the end the titles read "Thanks to Tony Phelps" , what was your part in this film. There were adders (melanistic ) out in the snow , various rattlesnakes , arietans and a few other bits. O-> O+>

Anyone got any better info, I saw a mention of Dunwich / Minsmere as a good site for them. Mark

Some years ago my mother and sister were holidaying on the Solway Firth at/near Kipford (yes?). They like to walk and before setting out along the coastal path the landlady warned them about the large number of adders there. They had not gone very far when they came upon a basking black adder. Also must be careful about specific UK sites, and it is true that they can pop up anywhere. 'I get my kicks on Route 62'
